Mary Quant at the Victoria and Albert Museum

A recent road trip for a meet up with the Call the Midwife Costume Team took us down for an amazing day at the V&A Mary Quant exhibition..

Fabulous curating and loved every minute and we drank the whole 60’s vibe in. Well actually Mary Quant spanned from late 50’s to 70’s at its height of arguably the most iconic decades of British fashion and a few bubbles to boot … all in the name of research of course!!

Immortalized fashion icon best known as the originator of the miniskirt, London designer Mary Quant had an art-school background and had been designing and manufacturing her own clothes since the late 1950s. She was a contemporary of her clients, rather than of an different generation designing with a younger audience in mind. Convinced that fashion affordability was key to be accessible to the young, she opened her own retail boutique, Bazaar, on the Kings Road in 1955, introducing the “mod” era and the “Chelsea look.”
